Versailles
Versailles is the classic day trip from Paris.
It is beautiful, impressive, and very popular. The palace, gardens, fountains, and Trianon estate can easily take most of the day.
I would not plan Versailles as a quick two-hour visit.
Best for: history, gardens, first-time visitors, couples, families with older children.
Less ideal for: very young kids, rainy days, travelers who hate crowds.
Time needed: half day minimum, full day is better.
Approximate budget:
Around €25–€35 per adult for common ticket options, depending on season, gardens, fountains, and what you include.
My tip:
Go early. Versailles gets tiring quickly when it is crowded. I also prefer not planning a fancy dinner the same evening. After Versailles, most people just want something simple near the hotel.
Disneyland Paris
Disneyland Paris is not really a small day trip.
It is a full day.
If you go with children, treat it as the main event of the day. Do not plan the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, or a big restaurant dinner on the same evening.
Best for: families, Disney fans, children, birthdays, first Europe trip with kids.
Less ideal for: travelers with only 2 or 3 days in Paris, unless Disney is a priority.
Time needed: full day.
Approximate budget:
Ticket prices change a lot depending on the date, number of parks, and demand. I would always check the official Disneyland Paris website before booking.
My tip:
If you stay in central Paris, plan the return before you go. Everyone is tired after fireworks, and getting back can feel long with children.
Giverny
Giverny is softer and calmer than Versailles.
It is where Monet’s house and gardens are located. This is a lovely choice in spring, summer, or early autumn if you want flowers, color, and a slower day outside Paris.
Best for: couples, garden lovers, photography, slower travelers.
Less ideal for: winter trips, rainy days, travelers who want a big monument.
Time needed: half day or relaxed day.
Approximate budget:
Usually around €10–€15 per adult for the gardens and house, plus transport.
My tip:
Giverny is not the day trip I would choose in bad weather. It is really about the garden atmosphere. When the weather is beautiful, it can feel like a little breath of air after busy Paris streets.
Champagne Region
The Champagne region is a great choice if you want something elegant and different.
Most visitors go to Reims or Épernay for champagne houses, tastings, cellars, and vineyard experiences.
Best for: couples, friends, wine lovers, special occasions.
Less ideal for: families with young children, travelers on a tight budget.
Time needed: full day.
Approximate budget:
A comfortable day can easily be around €100–€200+ per person, depending on trains, tastings, lunch, and how many houses you visit.
My tip:
Do not book too many tastings. Two good experiences are better than rushing between four appointments.
Normandy
Normandy is beautiful, but it is not a light day trip.
D-Day beaches, Mont-Saint-Michel, Honfleur, and the coast are all worth visiting, but distances are longer than people imagine.
For Normandy, I usually recommend either a guided tour, a private driver, or staying overnight.
Best for: history, coast, longer trips, travelers deeply interested in WWII sites.
Less ideal for: short Paris stays, tired travelers, families who dislike long drives.
Time needed: very full day or overnight.
Approximate budget:
This depends a lot on the destination. A simple train day can be moderate, but private tours or long private rides can become much more expensive.
My tip:
Mont-Saint-Michel from Paris in one day is possible, but long. I would only do it if it is truly one of your dream places.
La Vallée Village
La Vallée Village is a designer outlet shopping destination near Disneyland Paris.
It is a good day trip if shopping is part of your Paris plan, especially for luxury brands, outlet prices, and tax-free shopping.
Best for: shopping, luxury outlets, rainy days, fashion lovers.
Less ideal for: travelers who only have 2 or 3 days in Paris.
Time needed: half day to full day.
Approximate budget:
The visit itself is free, but your real budget depends on shopping. Transport from Paris is the main fixed cost.
My tip:
Do not plan La Vallée Village after a full Disneyland day. It sounds convenient because they are close, but it can become exhausting. Shopping with tired children or heavy bags is not fun.
Best Day Trips by Travel Style
For first-time visitors: Versailles.
For families: Disneyland Paris.
For couples: Giverny or Champagne.
For shopping: La Vallée Village.
For history: Versailles or Normandy.
For a slower day: Giverny.
For a big dream experience: Mont-Saint-Michel or Normandy, but only if you accept the long travel time.
Getting There: My Transport Advice
For some day trips, the train works perfectly well.
For example, if you are going to Versailles or Disneyland Paris and you are comfortable using public transport, the train can be a good budget option.
But for other situations, I would consider booking a private driver.
This is especially true if you are:
- traveling with children;
- carrying shopping bags;
- visiting several places in one day;
- going outside Paris for a special occasion;
- arriving back late;
- or simply wanting the day to feel easier.
For these cases, I usually recommend My Paris Driver.
They can help with private rides from Paris to:
Versailles
Disneyland Paris
La Vallée Village
Giverny
Champagne region
Normandy
and other trips outside Paris.
What I like about using a private driver for day trips is that the day feels more controlled. You do not need to manage train schedules, station changes, ticket machines, crowded returns, or tired children at the end of the day.
It is not always the cheapest choice, but it can be the easiest one.
For families, couples planning a special day, travelers with limited time, or anyone who wants a smooth door-to-door experience, I would seriously consider it.

WhatsApp: +33 7 66 08 62 20
When you message them, include:
- your pickup address;
- your destination;
- date and time;
- number of passengers;
- number of suitcases or shopping bags;
- and whether you need child seats.
What I Would Avoid
I would avoid:
- doing Versailles and Disneyland back to back;
- planning a day trip after a late-night arrival;
- booking a far hotel just because it is closer to one day trip;
- adding a big dinner after a long excursion;
- trying to visit Versailles in the morning and La Vallée Village in the afternoon;
- choosing a day trip only because someone online said it is “must-see.”
My personal rule: if you have only 3 days in Paris, stay in Paris.
If you have 4 or 5 days, then one day trip makes sense.
My Simple Recommendation
For most first-time visitors, I would choose:
Versailles if you want the most classic day trip.
Disneyland Paris if traveling with children.
Giverny if you want something calm and pretty.
Champagne if you want a special adult day.
La Vallée Village if shopping is important.
Normandy only if you have enough time and energy.
My personal favorite for a balanced first trip is Versailles, but only if you do not overload the rest of the day.
For Versailles, Disneyland Paris or La Vallée Village, public transport can work if you are traveling light. But for families, shopping days, late returns, or longer trips outside Paris, I would personally choose My Paris Driver for a simpler door-to-door experience.
Final Thought
A good day trip should make your Paris stay better, not more exhausting.
Choose one place that really fits your trip.
Book what needs to be booked early, keep the evening simple, and remember that sometimes the best Paris day is still the one where you stay in the city, walk slowly, and do less.
